Motorcycle drivers’ examination season opens

Pursuant to the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Road Traffic Safety individuals who have reached the age of 16 years are eligible to acquire the right to ride motorcycles of engine capacity over 50 cc m3, but not exceeding 125 cc and maximum power of 11 kW (i.e. vehicles of category A1).
Individuals who have attained the age of 18 years are eligible to acquire the right to ride motorcycles of maximum power of 25 kW and power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg, and motorcycles with sidecar and power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg, (i.e. category A vehicles with restrictions).
The right to ride motorcycles without power restrictions is granted to individuals age 21 or those who have minimum two-year experience in riding motorcycles of category A with restrictions, i.e. individuals not younger than 20 years of age.
Individuals can register for examinations either arriving to or calling the Examination Centre and also in the internet through the website of Regitra regitra.lt using free electronic service offered by the Enterprise. Individuals who register can reserve the place of examination convenient for them choosing any Examination Centre of Regitra they prefer.
Before going in for examination residents must submit a valid medical certificate testifying to the driver’s health examination and a certificate of completion of the training course under compulsory first-aid training programme as well as their personal document.
Individuals who have at least secondary education – for category A1, and individuals holding the driver’s license of categories B1 or B – for categories A1 and A have the right to prepare for the theory test individually. In other cases and individuals willing to take practice examinations must always submit the certificate of completion of the driver’s training course.
In 2009, 3 575 residents of Lithuania passed the examinations in VĮ Regitra and acquired the right to ride motorcycles.
The Description of the Examination Conditions and Procedure for Motor Vehicle Drivers approved by Order No 1V-329 of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania of 10 September 2008 establishes that between 10 November and 1 April examinations for vehicles of category A do not take place.
